چکیده

The last few decades have shown a great progress in the development of antiviral agents that were licensed for treatment of Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), herpesviruses, hepatitis viruses and respiratory viruses. The majority of viral infections clear spontaneously and are not in need for specific medical therapy. However, antiviral chemotherapy is indicated in certain clinical situations including:

New Anti-Influenza Agents: Targeting the Virus Entry and Genome Transcription

Introduction: The emergence and spread of the pandemic H1N1 influenza virus in 2009 indicates a limitation in the strategy to control the infection, despite a long-established vaccination programme and approved antivirals. Production the proper vaccine against influenza is difficult due to the genetic recombination of virus in the event of pandemic and co-circulation of drug-resistance variants...

Broad-spectrum antiviral agents

Development of highly effective, broad-spectrum antiviral agents is the major objective shared by the fields of virology and pharmaceutics. Antiviral drug development has focused on targeting viral entry and replication, as well as modulating cellular defense system. High throughput screening of molecules, genetic engineering of peptides, and functional screening of agents have identified promi...

Antivirals Reduce the Formation of Key Alzheimer's Disease Molecules in Cell Cultures Acutely Infected with Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1

Alzheimer's disease (AD) afflicts around 20 million people worldwide and so there is an urgent need for effective treatment. Our research showing that herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) is a risk factor for AD for the brains of people who possess a specific genetic factor and that the virus causes accumulation of key AD proteins (β-amyloid (Aβ) and abnormally phosphorylated tau (P-tau)), sugges...

Inhibition of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Replication by Hydro-alcoholic and Aqueous-Acetic Acid Extracts of Alhagi maurorum

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a major infectious disease of cloven-hoofed animals that is caused by the FMD virus (FMDV). This disease has significantly adverse economic impacts; therefore, rapid control measures are urgently. Traditional ranchers in Iran use Alhagi maurorum Medik. to treat FMD; therefore, we aimed to examine the antiviral activity of methanolic, ethanolic, and aqueous-acetic...

Prostaglandin A inhibits replication of human immunodeficiency virus during acute infection.

An antiviral effect of prostaglandins (PGs) of the A series on the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been determined. In the T cell line C8166 under single growth cycle conditions, PGA1 reduced the number of infectious progeny 1000-fold in the absence of cytotoxicity. Thus, inhibition of HIV replication by PGA1 represents a true antiviral phenomenon. The number and size of v...

A cell-based, high-throughput screen for small molecule regulators of hepatitis C virus replication.

BACKGROUND & AIMS Only half of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection experience sustained virologic response to pegylated-interferon and ribavirin, which cause numerous side effects. Thus, the identification of more effective and better tolerated agents is a high priority. We applied chemical biology to screen small molecules that regulate HCV. METHODS We first optimized the...
